The installation of the 38 km of double-track railway from Bicocca to Catenanuova has been successfully completed, as part of the works for the new Palermo–Catania connection.
The project, led by Webuild and in which S.I.F.EL. S.p.A. is directly involved in electrification, also provides for the activation of 17 railway viaducts, 8 over-rail bridges, 2 artificial tunnels, 2 tunnel bridges, and 5 road underpasses, which will make it possible to eliminate all level crossings currently present along the section.
Over 350 workers are engaged on the site, for an investment of 508 million euros: the project is included in Cantieri Parlanti, an important initiative created by the FS Group and RFI in collaboration with the MIT, designed to transparently share the activities and benefits of the new infrastructure through public events, infopoints, and a dedicated web page for strategic works.
