To minimize the impact on normal railway traffic, our teams must necessarily complete the work during the night hours: that’s how a task—often already very complex—turns into a real technical and organizational challenge.
In Genoa, our technical director Davide Garrone describes the recent intervention carried out between the Piazza Principe and Sampierdarena stations, where a signaling portal of approximately 16 tons was installed more than 10 meters above the road below, Buranello.
Thanks to the valuable support of Vernazza, the beam—more than 17 meters long—was lifted and secured to the two pylons previously set on steel brackets fixed to deep foundations, built within the niches of the viaduct, consisting of no. 9 micropiles with a length up to 24 m.
The portal, which will replace an old structure—demolished by us previously—will finally support as many as 22 railway signals for 4 tracks.
Another team effort, then, to connect the future.
